Save Our Spire

An appeal for essential work to the spire and tower of St Catherine's, Burbage

There has been a Church dedicated to St Catherine in Burbage since the 11 th century. The present parish Church , although rebuilt in the nineteenth century, is the one of the oldest and most prominent buildings in our community. It is a Grade 2* listed building in a conservation area serving a growing community of 17,000 people.

The tower and spire of the Church is a very prominent landmark, visible for miles outside of Burbage. Further to a structural inspection, it transpires (!) that some significant and major work needs to be done to preserve the building. No work has been done to the tower and spire for over 50 years.

The cost of the necessary work is £100,000. Already, £60,000 has been secured or promised. We are, therefore, making an appeal to everyone living in Burbage, whether connected to the Church or not, to make a donation towards the remaining £40,000 to enable the repair and preservation of the tower and spire. Cheques and donations can forwarded to the Rectory, New Road , Burbage LE10 2AW and made payable to ‘Burbage Parish Church Tower Appeal'. If you are a taxpayer, please indicate and a Gift Aid Form can be sent enabling the tax paid to be recovered adding an additional 28p to every £1 donated.

Many thanks for your support in maintaining your historic landmark Church: this is much appreciated.
